Muhammad Ali, also known as “The Greatest of All Time,” is a truly iconic global figure. In this CERCA set focused on building multimedia literacy skills, we asked, “What exactly made him so famous, so absolutely iconic?” Check out these lessons designed to help students examine how celebrities like Ali develop and use their identities to drive social change. Students will also explore the many eras touched by the man born Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky and ask how he himself—and those who helped tell his story—shaped national and international conversations about issues ranging from civil rights to freedom of speech.
